27 and 28

Our school Halloween pageant is coming up. My costume was a ham. Atticus was busy, so Jem took me to the pageant. To get to school we had to walk past the Radley house. Then through the woods and then we were at the school. I messed up walking to the center of the stage during the pageant. I was a little late, but besides that the pageant was good..

After the show Jem and I were walking home when I realized I forgot my shoes at the school. So we turned back and went looking for them, but the lights were off so we were searching in the dark. When we were looking Jem  heard something in the distance. We stopped moving to hear it better but the noise stopped to. So then we went on looking when we heard it again. We stopped immediately, but this time the noise didn't. Jem screamed "RUN!" and I was gone. then I heard Jem screaming in pain. Then all the madness suddenly stopped. I later found out the Bob Ewell broke Jems arm because he was trying to kill us to get back at Atticus. But Boo Radley saved us by stabbing Bob

23 and 24

Atticus was threatened by Bob because of what he has done in the trial. Mr. Ewell is a scary man so his threat worried me for my fathers sake. some how though Atticus does seem scared at all. Tom was imprisoned far away from here. But Atticus still thinks Tom can be acquitted. I asked Atticus what would happen to Tom if he was found guilty. Atticus said if he was he would be thrown in the electric chair for raping Mayella.

Terrible news arrived today. Atticus told me that Tom tried to escape from his prison and was shot dead. I couldn't believe the news. I knew Tom was going to die, so I guess I could understand why he took the chance and tried to escape. I just never really grasped the fact that he was going to die so I took it really hard. My mind was racing and I couldn't stop thinking about his death. Later on Atticus and Calpurnia went to the Robinson's to announce Tom's death.

20 and 21

The trial was coming to an end ,when Atticus made his closing speech to the people. Atticus tells everyone how black people are just like everyone else, and should be treated just the same because anyone's skin color doesn't define them as a person. He ended the trial with that impacting speech. then goes further on to say not all blacks are criminals. This is when I realized how much Atticus cares about this trial and stopping discrimination.

When the trial ended Calpurnia came into the courtroom. She handed Atticus a note. That's when I realized what that note had said once Atticus looked up at us sitting in the balcony. He didn't want us to witness this trial because it was to grown up for us. Then Calpurnia took us home to have dinner. We begged and begged to stay because we wanted to hear the verdict of the trial. But Calpurnia said we could come back when we were finished with our dinner.

18 and 19

Atticus talks to Mayella on the stand. Atticus got Mayella to admit that she was a lonely girl who had no friends and a drunken father. He began interrogating her, saying that her father hit her. That's when Mayella started crying and refusing any more questions. Atticus says that a left handed man hit her, but Toms left arm was destroyed by a cotton gin when he was younger. so that makes it impossible for Tom to have hit her on her right side.

Tom was then summand to the stand for questioning. Tom explained his side of the story. That every day he walks by and one day Mayella called him for help. Tom being the good hearted person he his felt bad and helped Mayella. when he went in side that's when she threw herself on him and started kissing Tom. That's when Tom ran away because he thought Bob would kill him because he looked like the victim from Bob's perspective.

16 and 17

Tom Robinson's trial started today. Miss Maudi was the only one in town who didn't come to the trial. Jem, Dill and I were waiting for everyone to enter so we could sneak through the back without anyone seeing us, expecially Atticus. Thankfully Reverend Sykes saw us, because he lets us sit at the balcony with all the black people and we get great a view of the whole court room.

when Atticus began to interrogate Heck Tate, Atticus got Tate to admit there was no doctor envolved in the incident. Atticus continue to get out of Tate that Mayella, the one who accused Tom of rape, was bruised on the right side of her face. Bob says that when he heard Mayella yelling, he came running with a shot gun and when he reached the house, he saw Tom raping her. Atticus interrogation was short because he had Bob write his name. Bob signed his name with his left hand and that's when Atticus said it easier for a left handed person to hit the Mayella on the right side of her face.

chapter 8

The most amazing thing happened the other day in Maycomb. It snowed for the first time in several years. We even got off from school because snow was so rare. Jem and I collected as much snow as we could to make a snowman. We realized it wasnt snowing enough so we made it out of dirt and put snow on top. As a joke we make it look like Mr. Avery. Dad got mad so we put on Miss Maudies sunhat on the snowman to disguise it.

A terrible tragedy occurred the other day. In the middle of the night my dad woke me up and put my bathrobe on me. I was still half asleep so i didnt know what was happening. He took Jem and I outside thats when I saw it Miss Maudies house was on fire. All my neighbors were outside helping her save her furniture. The fire trucks arrived fast enough so the fire wouldnt spread to other house, but it was to late for Miss Maudies house it was burnt to the ground.

chapter 7

When we came home the other day from school Jem and I found his pants mended back together. Then we found something else. It was a ball of gray twine in the knot in the tree. We didnt know whos it was so we left it there. After a few days we just took it. We had an idea who left it there but now its ours.

A few months later another present was left in the knot. It was to figures that looked like Jem and I. The dolls were carved out of soap. Then in the hole we found chewing gum, a pocket watch, and a spelling bee medal. The day after that we saw that the hole was filled with cement. Jem asked Nathan Radley what happened to the tree. Mr. Radley replied that the tree was dying so he had to fill it.

chapter 6

Its dills last day in Maycomb and he wants to do one last thing to Boo Radley. So Jem and Dill decide to sneak on over to Boos house and peek through his shutter. I accompanied them, so we creeped around the house and and we were looking through windows when we saw a black shadow. Thats when we heard the gun shot. The shot came from behind us. Instantly we ran for the fence we were almost home free, but Jem got his pants caught in th fence. So he had to get free of them and leave them behind.

Dill and Jem became really good friends over the past summer. They would be together all the time. They were with each other so often that i felt left out after awhile, but Im glad because thats when i became friends with Miss. Maudie. but i truly realized how good of friends they were when dill lied for Jem when he lost his pants. Dill said that he lost them during a game of strip poker against dill. Even though it still made the adults mad, its the thought that counted.

chapter 4

When Jem and I were together he stubbled across some pennies. We discovered the pennies in a knot-hole. When he took a closer look at them he realized they were old. He thought they were so cool and interesting, like they were worth a lot of money. I could care less about the pennies they are just some old round pieces of copper. I guess he is just more mature when it comes to appreciating older objects. I am just a kid that is a little less mature because I would rather play than stare at some coins. He is my older brother so maybe one day it will interest me.

That Boo Radley creeps me out hes always hidden away in his house. I don't get why the other boys are playing his little game. Boo Radley scares me and it seems like I'm the only one. The boys play into his naive little games when it is a serious matter at least to me, but i have good reasons. Miss Maudie told me if he wasnt crazy as a child he is probably now. So i think they should leave him and the knot in the tree alone.

Chapter 2

I cant believe what i heard today. Mrs. Caroline told me i to stop reading with my father. I dont understand because i knew everything we talked about in class and i helped my teacher when she was wrong. But she still said my dad shouldnt read to me because he isnt a teacher. She said i was very intelligent but, I only know what my dad has taught me so he has to be doing something right. I dont know if i should stop reading.

Walter Cunningham had an even worse day the i did, which is surpriseing. The teacher made fun of him for not having a lunch. and she offered him a quarter but he didnt take it. I thought that was strange, but it was because he wouldnt take anything he couldnt pay back. I guess thats how he was brought up because hes really poor. But luckily for him he only comes once a year to school. I feel bad because they are so poor that his dad is allowed to hunt out of season.
